I hope that wasn't too technical, but why do people try to over think simple tasks and make them into a triple reverse with one and a half twists in the pike position, when all that is needed is a swan dive???

Agree with your general philosophical position!
What you suggest is shown in the Haynes manual (except their 1/2 inch drive handle is not a ratchet one).
When I tried it, I just could not move the hand-brake cable enough to get the square drive into the plug, without using a lot more force than I thought was sensible.
BUT - I have found that a fairly simple 1/2 inch sq drive "universal-joint" type works fine. I don't have a wobble bar, and might get one, but the flexible joint works OK.
