I use a 50-50 mix of 80-90 and 85-140 Nulon on diffs and transfer.
I found that towing in hot conditions made the transfer case oil go discoloured quickly.

When I changed to the mix the oil stayed a good colour.

It makes it hard to change from hi to lo when cold but other than that is fine.
I cannot comment on the gearbox other than to repeat what others say that Castrol Syntrans is the go.

This refers to a D1 or D2 or an old RRC with LT230 as you don't say what type of car you have and it is not in your profile.

It's not a matter of failing to understand or comprehend the information but no real information on the oils in question unfortunately schuy1 you have failed to grasp the question at hand and instead have a febil attempt at my intellectual integrity. I thought my question was fairly straight forward regarding theses two nulon oils I apologize if this confused you schuy1.

    feeble? Sorry, couldn't resist it.
BTW I use Nulon 75-90 semi synthetic in the R380 and LT230, and I'll put this in the diffs when the time comes.

    Cheers

I used Castrol VMX 80w in the gearbox and Castrol 80-90 in diffs/tc on D1. The D2 is auto, but still uses the 80-90 in diffs/tc.

gulf western do a very nice sae90 for diffs and transfer cases etc

    $99 for 20l at supercheap i believe

use it all thru my fleet with a touch of CEM AW0

syntrans for any manual landrover gearbox is my preference

i personally wouldn't put nulon on a wheelbarrow wheel after my experience with it in gearboxes and overdrives

    to each his own though...

Thanks all who gave me constructive advise much appreciated would be interested as to the trouble you had incision with the nylon product I had my gearbox oil changed son time ago by a land rover specialist he used syntrans in my gearbox found it a pita from 1st to 2nd when cold. I have found nulon engine oil to be fairly good but it is changed every 5000k without fail other oils not so often.

mainly syncro issues and boxes being noticeably noisier when using it especially when up to highway running temp.

i have never had a box that had cold shifting issues with syntrans..

i had an lt85 in a county that was running nulon when i picked it up and it had been in there 10000k according to the previous owner. the box was okay but you couldn't do gear changes in any sort of a hurry and it also got quite noisy after half an hour on the highway.

i always dump all the oils when i buy a truck and within a couple of weeks of it having syntans in it in turned into a great box that shifted properly no matter how quickly i did it and it never got noisy again. i eventually decided to go back to an lt95 in that truck and it became due for a service a few weeks before the swap so i put some nulon in it because it was way cheaper and after a week or so the thing became a mongrel to change gear in so i was pretty convinced by then that it wasnt anywhere near good enough for the job..

pretty much same occurred with a hiace 5 speed box i had in a camper i have.

rather pay a bit more and get something that does the job properly.
