Question TD2 D2 auto with missing bolt is this normal? see photo

I went for a crawl under the D2 today just see if my mechanically uneducated eye could see anything. Besides the odd oil sweep here and there. I noticed the gear box was missing this bolt (see photo). seams strange i hope oil can't leak out of it..

what do guys and gals in the know think?

    thank you for reading..

I think (and I may be wrong) that is where the wading plug goes. Normal for it not to be there. Mine isn't.

That threaded hole is for inserting a tool to locate TDC(top dead centre) of number 1 cylinder when setting the crankshaft to cam shaft timing.

Perfectly normal for nothing to be in it

There was a threaded hole near the same spot on my D1 bell housing for wading plug.

It would have been at the lowest point of the bell housing also, fitt it to keep water out of the clutch when doing water crossings.
The TDI motors had one on the timing case also, only fitt as above.

On the D2 Auto it's higher and the "drain" point is always open.
    Cheers, Kyle
