Thread: Removing and lubing rear door lock mechanism

I normally just spray mine externally with either carby or brake cleaner - I cant recall which one it is.

I'm in the same boat, and I find that if I push/lean on the door and while doing that then squeeze the handle it always pulls open without fail. If I just squeeze the handle while not pushing on the door then anything could happen.

I just clean and lube externally too and it's still original and fine touch wood.

3 stage process:

1. Spray with Inox then wipe clean ( operating the catch and handle mechanism with the door open) and use a screwdriver with a rag to get in the cracks
2. When clean, spray with DuPont Wax Teflon to lube.
3. Then some graphite lock dust as well - just to make sure!

Doesn't need much attention around the city, but on dusty trips more often.

Thanks gents...i do though have some reservations about combining teflon grease with graphite powder...surely one or the other?

Lanolin spray is anti static , or graphite powder

I've been thinking of rigging up some cord connected to the inner door handle that runs across the door to the hinge side then past the rear pockets to the cargo barrier. As a get out of jail card if the external door release fails.
Yet to put my thoughts into something material though.
