Yes, inwards as in towards the center of the vehicle, or so as to make the top sit firmer with the door rubbers when the door is closed. A word though, do not get too carried away with the adjustment. I found the best position was such that when you closed the door you were able to feel the top move very slightly as it latched. Any tighter and the rubbers become damaged over time, thus defeating the original purpose.
See? they are landrovers with adjustable gaps and leaks
