    GearBox Filler Bolt

With the manaul gearbox filler plug as its an T55 bolt, can it be replaced with an hex bolt or something else?

    Can I ask why?

The tool fitting on the head type is somewhat irrelevant - the thread type is far more important as to whether it can fit or not. Make sure it's both the same thread and I'd be careful not to go any longer without first checking clearance (I think that there's plenty of room though if I remember right).

Only concern about the head is it needs to seal with the washer. Perhaps an internal hex (allen key) type head would be a suitable replacement rather than an external hex (socket/spanner).

I want to replace it as the previous owner has started to stop the torx fitting on it and I don't want to to get any worse and not be able to take off the bolt

Why not just get a new T55 bolt? or a second hand one.

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

If it was mine I'd just find a nice chunky hex nut and weld it to the filler plug so an ordinary ring spanner could turn it (space permitting).

I used a galvanised plumbing tap stop plug on mine, avail at bunnnings and the like, the ones with the square raised end, it worked, I was a lot easier than fiddling with torx bits.
