    Its a pig Rob.

Disco Muppett suggested you ask me about "Malfunctioning Eddie", so here you go http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...what-odds.html
    Might make you feel better.
Incidentally I sold "Eddie" locally within a few months of that thread and it is still going happily in and out of remote places.

Sell?, wreck? So many variables. I had a friend with a D2 who insisted he maintained his vehicle regularly. After his rebuilt gearbox started to have shift issues after 180k I asked when he changed the oil. He said never and followed that he never changed the oil in any of his other cars why should this be any differentl
4 engine oil changes over that time and that was it from him. Topping up fluids adding fuel and driving was his idea of maintenance.
Seems you bought a vehicle from someone like him.

I loved my D2 (not Eddie) , so much so, I grafted all the electrics and auto into the Defender.
Im not concerned at all for its reliability or longivity.

Oil pump bolt. A known failure point for TD5s where the oil pump intake bolt was not graced with a bit of Loctite at birth, so it works it's way loose, and no more oil circulates.

The teething troubles of buying a D2 that has not been looked after well. They will pass. Having said that I'm fed up with mine as it hasn't missed a major beat for nearly 3 years (At the risk of bringing the D2 gods down on me) what am I supposed to do with my time. But it is only a low milage vehicle with 451,000K on the clock, what more can I expect. Yes sure I had the trans rebuilt at 300,000 and put on a Turner head about 3 years ago, plus the usual things that any brand of vehicle will need. Don't despair if you keep it you will end up like me with a great car that goes like it's new at 15 years of age.

Why can't you see that it isn't all about LR, and is probably all about YOU. Most people on this forum have a good relationship with their cars. If this is a concept that you find difficult, then perhaps the Toyota route would suit you best.
However, if you think that A: nothing will go wrong. and B: there will be a community there 24/7 to help you out when A turns out to be untrue, then you are seriously mistaken.
I wish you well with your endeavours, and hope that you choose to stay in the LR fold.

Rob, maybe this thing is just a Friday afternoon build... or as Strangy said, was "maintained" by someone whose idea do maintenance was washing it twice a year.

Before my current D4 I had a V8 D2 and a TD5 D2a.... both did hundreds of thousands of trouble free Km - yes they had the odd problem - but I maintained them religiously - including preventative maintenance on well known issues.

Obviously you don't need to go far to hear stories of unreliable D2's .... but they are definitely not all like that.

I think most of us here have some passion for their Land Rover(s).... if yours is turning to Hate... maybe it is time to look for a different one ...

2015 TDV6 D4.... the latest project... Llams, Traxide, Icom 455, Tuffant Kimberleys and Mofos.... so far.
2012 SDV6 SE D4 with some stuff... gone...
    2003 D2a TD5...gone...
    2000 D2 V8...gone...
