    Heater not really working

Guys, my fluid levels are fine. But the heater isn't really working. its OK on mild Melbourne days like today, but bloody cold earlier in the week.

Is there a heater tap that might be stuffed or jamming that I can check? I go to the snow a bit and that long cold drive up in the morning is giving me the squirts.

As usual, thanks for any help.

No tap, the heater is a full flow system.ie water circulates full time. If the vehicles has sat for a while with a poorly maintained system crud can settle in the heater core and block it. Do a reverse flush of the core if it's possible that has happened. Another is a dud therm state, what is the normal temp reading for the motor?

    when i brought my D2 i did a radiator flush ,,,
Put the bottle in drive for 10 k`s and wait till it cools and drop the bottom hose ,,,
So much crap came out ,
I have noticed it runs cooler ,,
And its filled with the "PINK" coolant now ,,,

maybe a flush will help ?
anyhow good luck and keep us up to date ,,
    Cheers rob

Has it had that chemi weld , radiator leak stuff in the coolant as i have see the heater core blocked solid like concrete with it ?? ,

To rule out an air lock too release partially the bleed screw with engine running and keep the rpm above 1500 untill no bubles are coming out there, this will bleed any air trapped in the heater circit cos the thermostat has a mechanical valve which opens only at 1500rpm, if still no joy be prepared with some coolant and go for a 10 km ride with the tank's cap removed then top up if necessary and tighten the cap to max

    As per usual thanks.

Its a TD5. It takes a long time to get warm on cold mornings. I warm it for 5 minutes or so before driving but some days it can take another 10 before hitting operating temp on the gauge. Thats about half way and no I havent checked the nanocom for an exact temp. As an example I was caught on Mont Albert rd in traffic this morning. Bumper to bumper traffic and it stayed at the cold line until i started driving at regular speed. That was at least 20 minutes.

I did a full flush when i bought her a year ago. Its losing a little bit of water but nothing really. All the hoses have been replaced. Ill try elevating the front and bleeding at 1500 rpm to see if that works.

The heater temp just dosent seem hot when the car is at operating temp. I'm sure there is a reason, but I'm not sure what it could be. If the bleed dosent work, I might try flushing just the heater core to see if that works.

Any other ideas would be gratefully accepted. I'm too old for a freezing car.

Does sound as if the thermostat could be slightly open, which would result in slow warm up. No heat in heater even after a run would appear to point to the core having a blockage.
