    Dash question

Howdy folks, got my car back from having both its transmission and transfer box rebuilt. It is all running superb, i was just wondering if any knows if during this work, would my dash/instrument surround have had to come out? I know my center console had to come out and now my cigarette lighter doesnt work which i need to let them know about but wanted to check fuses first. But the instrument surround just fell out too. This has never moved and it just fell out onto the steering wheel and has broken clips and will not stay in itsplace. Is this just bad timing or have they had it out while my car was having its transmission fixed? I dont understand how it could just break like this on its own. Just a little upset because they did a wonderful job but now i have broken trim!!! uploadfromtaptalk1473659529324.jpg

    Hi
No need to remove it when doing trans , but they have forgotten to replug the connection at the back of your cigarette lighter when refitting the console that doesn't really need to be removed anyway.

The only way it could have been broken if a person entering the vehicle used it as a grab point to get in and braced themselves against it. As said there is no reason to remove it.
As for it being broken, the top plastic section that the clips slide into a so weak that they easily break. The 2 retaining screw holes at the steering wheel area also are flimsy. I had great success in fixing mine using a product called rapid fix. I rebuilt the plastic with it and it is now strong as.
I posted a pic of the repair some time ago on the forum, but I don't have the link.
    Cheers, Mario

Yep Im guessing that is why it broke because of some strong arm Baboon either by entry to the car or bracing them selves when removing the the console

My center console had to be removed to access cdl cable and assembly as it was snapped. But my thoughts are that someone has used the instrument surround to brace and broken it.

Still cant see how, that's what the steering wheel is for and it's closer than the instrument binnacle.

I know they didnt remove the instrument surround but i think someone has grabbed it or its just wonderful timing it just broke off for no reason. Which is strange as its never ever moved, and all clips are broken. My Centre console is fine and not damaged its just the cigarette lighter doesnt work now so think it's just not been plugged in when it's been put back together. They are a really great bunch. They are more than happy to have a look and sort it out.

I get so worried about it haha. I dont want them stressing over it and fixing it if it is just one of those random things that just happened.
