Bottom ball joints.

I've noticed over the last 6 months that the steering seems to be getting a bit vague. It's not dramatic, but certainly seems to have lost a little something recently.
I've done nearly 390,000 km in it, so probably shouldn't be too surprised. Time to put a bit of money into the old girl.
Tyres still got heaps of tread (Bridgestone D694).
It's a 2000 D2 with ACE.
Where would be the first place to start looking?

Tie-rod ends. I've recently done the short ends and I couldn't believe the difference.
2000 D2 TD5: Tunit Chipped, EGR Delete, 2" lift, 265s, TJM bullbar, full length roof rack
as above plus steering box adjustment, its one that usually gets missed on high mileage services.

Just for the record. My steering had gotten really hard and was making much noise.
All i had to do to fix it was remove the reservoir clean the filter at the bottom with pressure pack degreaser (took about 2 cans) did my best to ensure there was no degreaser left in the bottle. Bolted it back together, put new fluid in it and it is dramatically better for the easy and cost.
I assume this is not what you are experiencing but I had to share it with someone![]()
X2 - I was experiencing vague steering too and last week I discovered that the drag link short tie rod end (on pass side rear of front diff) was very sloppy...
Fitted a new one on Sunday (from Mario at Rover Lord) but haven't driven on it yet cos doing other stuff whilst it's up on the stands with the wheels off the ground. The other steering links are sound so I'm expecting an improvement.
