R380 cooler

That's very kind of you, thank you... i'll think about it, anyway i'm glad i asked here cos now after i studied a bit this thing it became obvious that it's plenty of space for improvization.... my last dillema is that is the thermostat thing mandatory for some reason? can't i simply remove those blanking plugs, find some suitable fittings and connect directly with the pipes from cooler there? is there some flow control issue which i dont get? ... i've already found a cooler which seems good and IMO good price AeroLine 10 Row Alloy Oil Cooler 1/2" BSP Fast Road & Race UNIVERSAL | Oil Coolers | Engine Cooling - Zeppy.io and hoses + fittings are all kinds available on the market locally

Quite a big job without the original (or after market) thermostat housing. You could drill/tap the gearbox case but that would be best done by stripping it to keep the swarf out.
The case is ported without thread so the thermostat housing is sealed against the case with recessed o rings located in the thermostat housing.then clamped with three bolts.
I havent paid to much attention to the non cooler fitting in place of the thermostat housing, maybe you could mod that to suit.

A quick postage check from me to Romania is about $35 aud.

I've just looked at the price of the thermostat housing BLOODY HELL it's not cheap is it :o

I can see why Ashcroft made their own housing now.

That's a bargain if it's a new one, the photo would suggest it's a used part though.

The part does look new and in the ad The gear box is used there is no mention of new or used so my assumption would say it`s new ;)
But in saying just about all r380 gearbox`s here have one so im guessing with dead gear box`s there should a few kicking around:cool:
Funny how you post a UK site and it would be tripple the price than here in OZ , Just goes to show it is not always cheaper from over sea`s.

If it does not have the pump housing on your gearbox, may be a bit more involved. Then maybe the Ashcroft is worthwhile if it comes with all that. Have you had a look at your box to sse if there is a pump on the side or even a cover plate? If not going to be much harder. I know mine as standard has the pump and a basic pipe cooler. I am looking at cutting the pipes and fitting a cooler at some point.

All R380 have a pump. It's located in the rear of the alloy casing. It's just LR didn't feel Europe need the cooler as well so they just fitted a "bypass" fitting which connects the two oil port galleries ( inlet & outlet)

I made some research and it seems it's doable quite cheap if you know a handy machinist :cool: Land Rover Owner • View topic - Gearbox Rebuilds? , it seems that i'll be resolved by courtesy of @strangy but i'm thinking that if i wasnt so lucky maybe some kind of rub nuts like these M3 M4 M5 M6 M8 M10 M12 RUBBER RUB NUT WELL NUT - THREADED BRASS INSERT RIVET NUT | eBay or other kind of threaded metal inserts or rivnuts in those oil ports would not do the job as well ... anyway i'm glad i asked before i spent that money cos seeing now what's about IMO that kit from ashcroft is too expensive
