    V8 auto box into a TD5 auto

    Hi There,
Is it a straight swap if I had an auto box out of a 1999 Disco V8 and wanted to put it into a 2002 TD5 auto? Do I need anything additional to just the gearbox.

Are the LT230 transfer case ratios the same?

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Cheers Marty.

Marty the torque converter, bellhousing and pump/ stator support etc are different. Rest should be able to be swapped over. The ratios in both are the same and transfer case is the same.

As above , plus you'll need to swap the extension housing and spacer for the output shaft over from yours as they are different as well

    Hi There,
When I transfer the bell housing and torque convertor (and the extension housing + spacer) do I use the three numbers on the box that determines the correct positioning of the torque convertor I'm taking the parts off to the box I'm transferring to? Or do I continue to use the three numbers on the box I am transferring to?

Would seem logical to transfer the numbers from the box that the torque convertor and bell housing came from.

    Cheers Marty

As long as the stack height is correct ( distance between the end of the bell housing and the bolt flange on the torque converter ) , 96 mm if I remember correctly for td5 auto ( but check to be sure) and you have 1-2 mm clearance between torque converter and flex plate before fitting up, it should be fine , you don't want more than 3 mm as this could stress the oil pump engagement dogs .
