D2a's not having engine oil cooolers...

From the late 80's Rover V8's have had engine oil coolers. My 95 D1 has a seperate engine oil (radiator style) cooler as does my 01/02 complianced D2 (one of the last D2's). I have seen several D2a's now that do not have the oil coolers...

    What gives?

Was it penny pinching during the last days of Disco 2 when D3 was about to hit the production run? If all D2a's do not have the oil cooler that is a problem especially for those that tow heavy loads.

    Cheers

Are you sure you are talking about engine oil coolers, not transmission oil coolers? I have had a 84RRC, 97tdi D1, 2000 D2V8, 2001 D2V8 and 2000 TD5 Defender and none have had engine oil coolers as standard like you describe. The TD5 does have a smaller type cooler on the side of the engine, but that is it AFAIK.
I would hazard a guess it has been modded if it has one.
Most Australian models had Trans coolers of some sort for the hotter climate.
Will check the Rave manual when I get home, but dont recall seeing engine oil coolers in that anywhere either.
    Cheers

My D1 and D2 both have trans oil coolers and engine oil coolers. D2 is manual transmission. My D2 is factory standard and I have owned since new. I know well a guy that wrecks them and fits low kilometre motors and he has noticed the same thing. Cheers

My 101 certainly has an engine oil cooler, both my 3.9 D1s had engine oil coolers and the D2 4.0 engine I have came from a vehicle from a D2 with and engine oil cooler.

I am not sure they do much but they have/had them.

I have to apologize, my sons does actually have both. I thought it was one unit but when doing some work today have found that it does infact have 2 engine and transmission.
