Thanks for all the suggestions guys, i'll deffinitely get rid of that shield and maybe i'll bite the bullet and replace the whole thing with new to rest my mind in this area for the next 15 years or so:cool: ...at least mine is on the dirver's side:)

Make sure the hood is aligned as it opens and closes onto the strike pin.
If the hood was ever removed and not aligned on the hinges exactly it can bind up as it clicks down.
Have someone pull hold the release lever whislt closing the hood watch for the hood pulling to the side or even front or back.

Change the cable. It's a bit of a PITA but have been down the path of trying to save/shorten the cable, and adjust latch. End result was having to change the thing which I should have done in the first place. No problem since, just a bit time consuming to change.

The new cable and latch are already ordered, i paid 60GBP for both from UK which worths my peace of mind in this area for the next 15 years:cool:
