Question PM023 Heavy Duty Steering Rods for Discovery 2 - with 4 ball joints

Has anyone replaced the tie rod ends on PM023 Heavy Duty Steering Rods for Discovery 2 - with 4 ball joints < PM023 | Heavy Duty Steering Rods for Discovery 2 - with 4 ball joints - Paddock Spares >? I assume that the one end may be compatible with the short end track rod end of the original D2 track rod (part number QFS100060), but what about the other side which is normally the long end?

Just be careful with the "These are virtually indestructible" as something else could give instead like your expensive steering box.
    cheers, Mario

Has any one been able to import one of the Rockwear offset steering rods?.

I believe that going bush had one fitted to his defender.

Yes, I think that you may be right, but it is the cheep included track rod ends that cop it. I've been running it for four or five years now with out an issue. I have a substantial bash plate in front of it and to date it has not made contact with a rock etc. I'm not seeking advice on whether to use it/buy one or not as I already have an use one, just replacement ends for it.

On a side note, personally, I found the steering feel significantly improved and would recommended it as an upgrade for a geared up off road vehicle.

May I suggest starting a seperate thread if you would like to discuss upgraded steering rods in general? The intention of this thread is specifically in regards to the PM023 unit and more specifically, suitable replacement ends for it.

On another side note though, you do realise that the item you linked is for a Defender, not Discovery 2 right? For the price difference between Rockwear and the PM023 - I'd go the PM023 as they are completely solid and as Mario suggested above if you were to test that, your steering box or the ends are likely to give way before the rods so there would be no benefit in being any stronger...

But thank you for your link to the picture as from it I went to https://www.expeditionexchange.com/rockware/ which provides the Defender end part numbers of:
    RTC5870 and RTC5869
I'm wondering if these may just be the suitable replacements that I require for the PM023!

Just putting up an alternative. It is a picture of the D2 version. It is linked under the defender one on their website.

Bet of luck with your decision.

From the FAQ section on Paddocks site

"Do you have ball joints for heavy duty steering rods (PM023) for sale separately?

Yes we do. The left hand thread joint is QFS000010. The right hand thread joint is PM1029."

No idea about a generic replacement though.

The joints supplied are made by 'Atek', picture shows their part numbers.

Thanks Kelvo. For anyone interested in reading the FAQ directly, the link is http://www.paddockspares.com/faqs .

When I was Googling PM1029 I found one of my old threads from two years ago < http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...ring-rods.html > which actually had the information I needed in it.

I would highly recommend that anyone using this setup uses genuine or OEM QFS000010 and not the same brand as Paddock Spares supply. It's a pity that with the PM1029 there is no other choices. I have found the included track rod ends to be of a low quality. The boots were very quick to perish.

My D2 once slipped off the trolley jack under the front diff banjo housing and was saved by the steering rod bending up.
Once I removed the jack the steering rod re- straightened itself up!
No harm done. This standard rod must be pretty strong
