    TD5 gearbox

Last Friday I drove up to Noosa North shore for the weekend but the gearbox had had enough by the time I got to Tewantin. So now my Discovery is sitting up at Noosaville and I'm back on the Gold Coast looking for an auto box. Whatever I do looks like costing a whack so I'm at a bit of a loss as to whether to call it a day and sell the td5 for what I can get and spend the money on my v8 or fix it

Hi mate, considering your a fair distance away, it might be worth talking to the specialists at http://www.britishoffroad.com/
They are 45min /1hr away from Tewantin. I've had no dealings with 'em personally except to have a nose around at some used vehicles and have a yarn to the mechanics. Having spent several years in that environment and now retired, I thought they were a decent crew. Unless there's a heap of things wrong with it, I'd get it fixed, but that's just me, you've gotta crunch the numbers and see how they work for your budget obviously. Maybe they'll have a low Km crash repair as a donor? No harm in a phone call.... Good luck, Mark.

Depending on the condition and budget I would give British off road a call and talk to Andrew he is the supervisor of the mechanics and will give you honest thoughts on whether the car is worthwhile fixing.

    td5 gearbox

Thanks for the advice guys. I had it towed to 4WD Obsession in Noosaville (because they were the ones I could get hold of), They phoned me on Monday and seem to know what they're doing to the point that they had already phoned British Offroad - no auto boxes in stock apparently. I'm busy chasing up various gumtree/ebay ads at the moment, some interesting stuff out there if you've got a yard and a few thousand spare, neither of which apply to me. It still works in reverse but only on the flat.

I have an auto box out of a 2003 v8 for sale. I think it can be fitted to a td5 by swapping over a few bits, someone may be able to verify that. I am in Bundaberg and will be travelling down that way next week sometime and could drop it off if needed, It is advertised on AULRO market place.

I'm not sure whether you've dealt with them, but every encounter I've had with Hart Transmissions at Brendale has been a positive one.
