D2 central locking problem...not the usual, this one is weird!

So...I've spent half the day reading threads here and on every other Landy forum about D2 locking...but bit found my issue.

Ever since I've owned it the remote will not unlock the car first thing in the morning.
Put the key in the door and turn the lock, the solenoids all go and the door will open, but the alarm goes off.
Once the system has been "woken up" by turning the key in the lock, the fob will work to disarm the alarm.
So the procedure is out key in lock, turn it to unlock, press button on remote to disarm, then open door.
Once this has been done it works perfectly all day until it sits overnight then it does it again,

The drivers door actuator also had the common issue of will lock but not unlock, so I had another one waiting to fit.

This morning the transfer bar from the door handle to the lock broke, so the key was freewheeling, the fob wouldn't trigger the car, and it was superlocked...

Eventually I got in by opening the bonnet from outside (pulled the grille in the front bumper, broke the plastic shroud off the bonnet catch and popped the lock) which set off the alarm, which woke the system up so the fob unlocked the car.
I then spent the rest of the day pulling the door apart, fitting the new actuator, and making a new transfer bar so the key connects to the door lock again...out of steel this time not cast dog ****.

It's all working nicely again, but I'm pretty sure when I go out in the morning I'll need to put the key in to wake it up again...and I'm getting sick of it.

Any one know what this is?
I really want to fix it....

Just sounds like your sleep mode is set to 1 day instead of 5 days or whatever it is. This should be set in the program. The dealers changed this on a lot of the earlier D2's and it is probably (???) programmable on via a Nanocom.
    Cheers

Hi, i presume your's is an early modell... unfortunately it seems that this thing will be fixed only if you replace the BCU, the "sleep mode" activation is not programmable via tester, i've had this myself at the beginning of my D2 ownership but it was corroborated with another BCU missbehaviour so i bit the bullet and bough a bran new BCU and everything's been OK since, mine doesnt go to sleep at all nor after two weeks, a used but confirmed working BCU will do the job just make sure it's not from an early modell... i dont see other cure, see the link(only the frequency and VINs can be different, the rest is pretty the same)

    Is bcu swap difficult?
Does it need to be coded to the car or is it a straight swap?

It's explained partially in that bulletin too...it needs complex programming to be paired with the ECU, fobs, vehicle's equipment

Will a nanocom do that or is it a dealer only thing?

Before you buy a replacement BCU....

That is a North America specific bulletin, as indicated by the NAS.

I had the same issue where the remote suddenly stopped unlocking after standing overnight but would work for the rest of the day once it was unlocked on key.
Replacing the remote receiver solved the issue.

The correct Tech Bulletin covering Non-NAS vehicles is L8605bu issued 08/08/2001 which covers YA260423 to 1A299999 and 1A700000 to 1A 729415.

    PROBLEM:
REMOTE HANDSET FAILS TO UNLOCK VEHICLE - ALARM RECEIVER
After the vehicle has stood for an extended period (e.g. overnight), the remote handset will not unlock the vehicle. Unlocking using the key restores normal operation.

    CAUSE:
There are a number of possible causes:
    1. Remote handsets not in synchronization with the Body Control Unit (BCU).
    2. Poor earth connection on the alarm receiver.
    3. Lack of continuity between the alarm receiver and the BCU, possibly due to a trapped or chafed harness in the "A" post area.
    4. The alarm receiver has detected interference over an extended period, resulting in the BCU going into "sleep" mode.

    ACTION:
Interrogate the alarm system using TestBook, noting the following points:

CAUSE 1 - Refe to Technical Bulletin 0021 - Handset Diagnosis.
CAUSE 2 - Ensure that the alarm receiver earth is clean and securely tightened to 7 Nm.
CAUSE 3 - Check wiring continuity between the alarm receiver and the BCU.
CAUSE 4 - Replace the alarm receiver with the appropriate revised receiver detailed in PARTS INFORMATION

    YWY000080 Receiver - alarm system - 433 MHz
    YWY000090 Receiver - alarm system - 315 MHz

OffTrack is right, there is such bulletin even for NAS, IMO these problems are the same no matter the specs, i forgot to mention this issue due to this statement : "Ever since I've owned it the remote will not unlock the car first thing in the morning. " cos the receiver issue is not so stabile but as they say "inconsistent" and ends with no remote action after a longer period...though i agree better replace the receiver first maybe you are lucky, also it's plug and play....in my case the BCU was the cure as i said, the receiver is still the 16 years old original one...sorry that i missed that , if you already bought a BCU and it will not fix your problem send it to me and i'll pay it to you via paypal

I've had the car since July.
The previous owner had it for two months before deciding he really was a Toyota guy after all (he bought it to replace the Landcruiser that got rolled, had it two months and bought another petrol Cruiser...) so it's been doing it at least six months.

Very consistent, first thing in the morning gotta use the key.
Does it with both remote keys too.

    Anybody got a spare receiver?
