    Re: the high EGTs.
    How's your exhaust system?
    Is it new/old/standard/freeflowing .. etc.

    Can make a big difference to EGTs.

    New decat pipe and new Flowmaster lightly baffled muffler.

    There was movement of the accelerator, for the coolant passed around
    But the motor with regret let some get away,
    It had joined the wild blown oils, and dribbled ever slowly to the ground,
    So all the cracks in head gasket had gathered and started to fray.

    All the tried and noted gasket from the pistons near and far
    Had tried to blow their edges overnight,
    For the motors love hard riding where the wild bush tracks are,
    And the diesel snuffs the battle with delight.

    There always is denial, from who lose a pile when Gaskets break the top,
    But the exhaust is good the air is really flows;
    But few could ride beside him when his coolant temp was fairly up -
    He would go wherever tow truck and service man could go.

    And Clancy of the Overflow bottle came down to lend a hand,
    No better cooling system man ever worked cars veins;
    For never electronics glitch could throw him while the radiator hose would stand,
    He learnt his skills while driving with D2 pains.

    And one leak was there, a stripling, just a small and weepy beast,
    It was something like a spillage undersized,
    With a touch of Gasket putty - three parts hardener at least -
    And such as are by D2 men well prized.

    He was hard, tough and too tiny to plug - just the sort that won't say die -
    There was pressure as his quick impatient leak was fed;
    And he bore the badge of gameness in his bright green coolant eye,
    And the proud and lofty leak from dying head.

    But still so slight and weepy, one would doubt his power to stay,
    And the old man said, "That gasket will never do
    For a long a tiring drive - lad, you'd better stop away,
    Those hills are far too rough for such as you."

    So he waited sad and wistful - only electronics stood his friend -
    "I think The EGT says I'm right to come," he said;
    "I warrant the gasket will still be with us when it's wanted at the end,
    For both his gasket and radiator are trusted with the head.

    " A gasket, stops a coolant River, coming up by pistons and alongside,
    Where the tolerances are twice as steep and twice as rough,
    Where a piston stroke strikes firelight from the every stroke side by side,
    The gasket that holds his own is good enough.

    And the D2 drivers on the mountains make their home,
    Where the coolant river runs those giant streams between;
    I have seen full many motors since I first commenced to roam,
    But no other like the D2 cooked and wrecked have I seen...

    I will keep an eye on the head gasket but apart from the recent loss , it hasn't used any water for about 3 years, but then it was not modded for most of that time.
    I usually fill to the seam. It was only a few days ago that I saw the little tag that denotes the cold water level about 13mm Below the seam.
    I will also have a look at the electric fan as a first step.

    Phillip, you need to address your head gasket before you ruin the head and be up for more money, trust me I know this first hand.

    First it's only now and then, climbing hills when towing, then it starts to happen more often, on flat roads sitting on 100/110kph or when trying to overtake, every time you over heat the engine, the more damage you do to the head, also even though your radiator looks good, chances are it will be partly blocked inside, get a new one, they are pretty cheap these days.

    Do it now at $1000 to $1500, less if you can do it yourself, or it will cost you over $4000.

    The high EGTs can be controlled with an adjustment to your driving style, and adding an EGT guage to monitor them, then when you can, get a bigger intercooler, open up your exhaust system, and raise the boost a bit more, this will solve most of your high EGTs.
    Cheers Baz.
