Well, I got under today with a small pry bar and checked the bushes.
Also put a dial gauge on the RH disc . Pads are about 1/2 worn .
Got to the LH disc and did the usual push and pull to find the disc loose.
The grub screw had come undone and the disc was floating around, so I think that is the cause of the problem, as I found nothing else obviously wrong. But come to think of it, the wheel nuts should hold the disc tight anyway.
I relubricated the pins and they were all OK anyway, and chamfered the pads.
The backing "insulators" on the inner pads which contact the pistons were cut through so I pulled the wreckage off and sprayed on some US Goop which becomes plastic.
I guess we will see. I will have the wheels rotated and balanced soon.
