    TD5 Fuel gauge failure

I have been mucking around with a clients fuel gauge for nearly two half days now.
Soldered all the contacts, the resistance changes exactly as you would expect, I have 280 Ohm max and naught at low level.
I can reproduce this with 5 ohm more all the way to the instrument pins, I have checked the connection under the expansion tank, near the steering column and at the back of the instrument. My mate brke the hosing =in the procedure and lost another 3 hours regluing and repainting the hole thing. GRR.
    Still nothing.

    ??? Any clues ???

A collegue suggested it might be a Defender pump. I checked a new VDO Defender pump and it goes up to 330 Ohm

Please, can somebody confirm the resistance of the Discovery pump?

Or what else can it be.

Client keeps on about it and it distracts him from the great job we did on gearbox and transfer box

It should be the other way around though, see attachment.... if you want to check the wiring and the gauge bridge the pins for the sender input at the pump's plug with a 100 ohm resistor then the gauge should rise above middle with ignition on, this way you rule out the circuit and instrument

Ok.. will find a resistor somewhere. I used to have loads but seems a lot disappeared with my ex...

This is a really good clue..will check the defender pump as well. After all temperature gauges also work the other way with Defenders

Thanks mate hope this is it. Some moron might have installed a Defender pump.

Btw ??? where did you find this sheet ???

It's from RAVE - Discovery 2 - Workshop manual - Instruments - Description and operation, you dont need the whole pump, the sender is available as spare

I've always thought that the fuel gauge on the Disco was guesswork

Have you tried setting the language on the PC to English, then try RAVE. Although the ASCII CHAR set is, I think the same.
