I have a normal snorkel with the head facing rearwards, I also run a TD5 Inside mild tune. In Hobart recently during a huge down poor of fat rain, the engine sucked in water to the airbox, wet the filter and the MAF went out of range so the engine began to surge due to the MAf signal.
I realised what had happened and in the rain swapped the air filter, soaked up the water and dried the MAF.
I've also fully sealed my air box as my engine was rebuilt due to sucking in dust and I also do lots of river crossings.
Anyway not sure about the Mantec snorkel but mine sucked the water in from the air. So to say it can't happen is false, I wouldn't have believed it either if it didn't happen to me.
