Engine Knock Noise Came & Then Went

Yesterday drove the kids to Dreamworld and started to hear a slight knock coming from the engine.

Was nearly at Dreamworld so decided to check it out in Dreamworld's carpark. Knock started getting louder. Popped the hood and it was really loud coming from passenger side bank (front). Turned it off and thought great, 2nd flatbed ride in a week!

Not to disappoint the kids went into Dreamworld and tried to forget about it.

After a couple of hours started up the engine and no knock. Drove it home and still no knock.

Anybody got any idea what is was or is?

I changed the power steering pump a couple of days ago; could a trapped air bubble in the pump cause it and after sitting for awhile work itself out?

Loose liner. The alloy block expands faster than the iron liner and loses its grip during higher temp episodes. It won't stop the car but will get annoyingly louder and more frequent as it progresses. A mate of mine drove his P38 for a year like that before spending the $K's. Time to save up for a top hatted engine.

Yeah, got home ok thanks Pedro. The engine is a 4.6 from RPI Engineering.

How much would it cost to have the block top-hatted?

Is there any other test I can do or will there be any other symtoms?

I don't think mine is top hatted ozscott. I bought it around 2003 and it was a new cross-bolted block.

Drove it this morning and no knock until after about 4ks. Then started quietly and then after about another 2ks was like this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4KLdjr9a4w.

After I shot the video I drove it and after about 500m the knock was completely gone. Drove about another 12ks and it didn't come back.

If it was a slipped liner, wouldn't it star knocking once warm up and then keep knocking?
