    Rear door lock problem

I have had many different 4WD's and I bought myself a 2004 Discovery 2 a couple of years ago, My only regret is that I should have bought one a lot earlier.
I have a problem with my rear passenger side door not unlocking.
I have tried using the button on the key, the unlock switch on the dash and manually trying to pull the locking latch up, all with No success.
Do the door locks have separate fuses (Like the headlights) and is it as simple as that to fix or is there a technique to be able to unlock the door so that I can see what the problem is and fix it?
I have read that Dust can be a problem with the doors But I really need to be able to open the door to do anything about the problem.
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated

Hi. The rear/tail and passenger doors are all on the same circuit so as long as the others are working and you can't open the door with the handle from inside or outside it means that the actuator is stuck in super-locked mode...put your ear on the door while you unlock with fob and if you hear any activity in there it's bad news cos you'll have to remove the door card and try to unlock it from the mechanism somehow or brake it...if you dont hear anything check the loom where it enters the door to not be chaffed so the unlock command can't reach the actuator.

    Thanks for that
I can hear activity inside the door, So it looks like I will have to try and get the inside door cover off somehow without destroying it to fix this problem.

Yes, the actuator has two motors inside, one is for superlock and if that fails to unlock the door can't be opened manually, if you can reach the actuator and unlock somehow by pulling something from the mechanism you are lucky if not i'm affraid you'll have to smash the whole thing, google out "discovery 2 rear door latch actuator" and watch the images to make an ideea how that actuator works

    Common problem.

Get in vehicle and give the door a good kick or five with your hoof near the lock.

Rear Door Lock problem - suggestion

trout1105, IF you have not yet tried this, may I make a suggestion that might seem so simple as to be dumb?
I recently had a similar problem opening my rear (cargo-area) door, and was contemplating all manner of things before getting it to open.
Have you tried getting someone to push in on the door (near the lock) from the outside, at the same time as you try to open it with either the external or interior handle?

Or as I do with my rear door is find a corrugated road and drive fairly fast doing lock and unlock repeatedly from the dash to free it up.

Thanks for all the replies Folks.
I actually tried the corrugated road trick a couple of months ago on my last trip on the useless loop road, It may not have worked because I always drop some air from my tires before I tackle that track.
I will have a go at stripping the door skin from the inside of the truck and see if I can get the door open, Maybe it is just one of those little plastic white connectors that has failed.
I had a problem with the drivers door not opening from the inside and a busted rod connector was the culprit there.

    Hi trout1105,
I didn't realize from your initial post that this has been a problem for you for at least several months.
Good luck with sorting it out.

    Hi Trout,
I had a similar problem to yourself I held the door lock button in the unlock position against the spring resistance and then tried the door handle and the door opened. I'm not sure what state of lockedness my door was in when I tried this but it worked. Just something worth giving a go I suppose.
