more than likely you will have to remove the rocker cover and replace the injector harness , its not just the oil that can cause problems as they also get brittle and break at the injector connection
Hi guys
my discovery TD5 is driving me insane, as it has just started playing up over the last week.
it started on the way to work at 80ks where a very slight surge was felt through the pedal, this has happened after I changed the oil, filter and degreased the engine.
a few days later pulling my trailer it was fine for 130ks of the 140k journey then it sounded like it was running on 4 cylinders.
I turned the ignition off, then stated it again it was fine.
from there I had to pull over every 1klm to stop and restart it where it ran fine then a major loss of power, breaking down almost like water in the fuel symptom.
the first start of the day is usually ok, it idles fine, a can drive it a few k's but put my foot into it and it doesn't want to run properly, from there it is constant breaking down even at idle.
if I leave it for an hour or so then start it it is fine, but once warm she spits the chewy.
I have checked and cleaned the wiring loom from injector harness, a little bit of oil in there but none at the ECU. I also have a DP chip in between this and tried disconnecting that but no change, I cleaned the map sensor as a bit gunky, I checked fuses, and bypassed the turbo vacuum line, no different, it has had the emission control blocked of already, I also changed the fuel filter, previously changed the fuel pressure regulator,
and got some pliers on to the waste gate which was really tight but moved it an inch or so back and forth. I done have any test meters to fault find, but it is driving me nuts. I cant drive it at moment I don't want to hurt her, do any of you have suggestions? this is my first post, not even sure if I am in the right area. is there anyone nearby with testing gear that can help.? I sure would appreciate feedback. thanks Billy

ok thanks, I haven't read anything about them breaking inside, but will order one anyway to try eliminate at least that.
once it starts running rough it is continuous, but first start of the day is usually ok then it just sounds like it has a miss on one of the cylinders after a few minutes running.
I'm thinking fuel pump.
Thanks mate I have just ordered an injector harness iwhen that is fitted and still the same I'll go for the pump
x2
I have removed mine in the past, checked for broken wires and if ok, I have washed the harness in petrol, rinsed with metho and put aside to dry. Always found them to be ok after this procedure. If you look at the harness there is very little on it to actually fail. Save your $$ and put them towards the next major problem![]()

Whilst you got cover off Monty 1, may as well do injector washers, which is what I'd have my money on being the problem.
thanks I didn't order washers, maybe I should have, but also don't have the pulling tool to get the injectors out. it has no problem starting, first turn of the key without using pedal, and it will idle fine at first, but give it a few minutes and it starts running rough I figured if it was the washers there would have been trouble starting it but I am no mechanic.
I did have oil in the top harness plug, which is actually the DP chip plug, and because of the chip and connectors I figured that is why it hadn't run back to the ECU. I also found 5 wires exposed on the chip harness plug that had rubbed through, but taping them up made no difference I thought maybe they were shorting out.
the fuel filter was also quite heavy when I removed it, and now the pump is making a squealing noise, I did try the key on off for a minute to bleed it, but never made that noise before. if I could get hold of a test meter it might save me the trouble but my nearest landrover repair shop is 40 k's away and I don't want to risk damage.
You need to make sure you haven't left the old rubber washer on the fuel filter housing , also to bleed the system properly you turn ignition on ( engine off ) and press the acc pedal to the floor 5 times you will see the engine light on the dash flashing, let it do its thing. Will cycle the pump a few times.
