Is there much in it between good pads and standard vented rotors and kangaroos paw and machined face sipes or holes in terms of performance in D2?

Well I can't argue with that pic... I seem to recall them saying (when they launched it) they were introducing the 'paw' internals on new moulds and on high demand lines. Perhaps the D2 didn't fit that criteria? D1 has commonality to RRC and Defo so reasonable demand/volume, and the RRS would have been a new mould... I guess, plus common to some D3/4 and other LR product. I'd assumed they'd updated everything by now, but you know what they say about assuming...

My opinion.....
All D2 rotors are vented at the front, this isn't an option - this helps stop the peak temps that cause brake fade.
Slots... look cool, but for a D2 don't do a lot unless you''ve got the brakes really hot... which I think the D2 can do, but not normally. I don't think slots are the be all and end all.
Kangaroo Paw over standard ventilation vanes - I don't know, but again, this is in the really hot brakes territory.
Pads, I think these make the biggest difference. This is in terms of friction and the way the friction is delivered and also usable temp range. I think a D2 needs to have really good pads with a high temp range.
I would much rather run excellent pads and standard rotors, than flash rotors and ordinary pads.

if you do a lot step hill descents then the kangaroo paw will be an advantage simple because as dba stats 10% heavy so there is more of a heat sink to help disperse heat through and maybe slightly better cooling due to surface area but the extra heat sink would be the main advantage.
the slots would help in wet and muddy conditions over non sloted and cross drilled or dimpled by being able to wipe the clean, would be of an advantage for traction control then braking but
as slunnie said if you have the option for one or the other go the pads
i am only looking at rotors as after putting up with it for a 100'000km i am over the warped front brake discs i have in mine that were warped from when i got it and thought i replace them when i wear the brakes out but realise i would need anther 200'000km to do that so ill just get new ones now
I have run EBC pads and DBA rotors for a long time. Towing a 2 tonne boat for many years they did a very good job. Never had fade. The biggest improvement for me in recent times was a complete flush and bleed using the Nanocom and good quality Penrite high temp brake fluid.
Cheers
I'm sure I read on the dba site "some" T2's come as kangaroo paws,,
would like the paws if possible..

The big thing with slots is twofold, they definitely increase initial bite and they stop the pads glazing as well as helping wipe the firebrand and helping outgassing.
If I have a choice I'll take them everytime.
Most people don't need them but I drive like an idiot.
F'rinstance most people would have no idea that the understeer/overseer transition is fairly rapid thanks to the short wheel base but the slide is nicely controllable![]()
not with the standard lock stops!!![]()
