    Unhappy Checking Aerial

While the hood linings out, i would like to check the radio aerial [in glass] and booster as the radio has static and a ticking sound like a old windup clock, can anyone suggest a multimeter check i could do.
This radio might not be original but is a Landrover item not a C42 or R990 as the handbook states, it does have a button for temperature on Rh lower corner if that's any help. CD changer has been removed.

Do these radios receive ok with the thru the guard type aerial being aluminium bodied.

    Cheers Whitey

PS. I have the find out how you Bold letters in the Title one day

The normal aerial will work fine, in fact it will likely work better. So you can fit one of these if you choose, you can do away with the signal booster if you like. People forget if you have poor signal to start with you are only boosting a poor signal and will still end up with boosted noise anyway.

I met a bloke who changed is aerial and had no issue, but i do believe he was listening to AM stations.

Sorry I can't help with the measurements. But most aerials (including TV) fail due to dirty, loose or corroded fittings. Sometimes a short from the outer wire to the inner wire. You will notice the aerial wire has 50 ohms written on it, this is the impedance and cannot be measured with a multimeter. UHF's us 75 ohm cable.

Tried a 1.5m Mobile One AM/FM whip on the front guard but found the original On Glass ant with the booster worked better on the weak FM station i was using as a reference. The car radio co-axe is 75ohm not marked a lot of the time, the UHF CB will be 50ohm and marked on the cable. I find i also get a click click on weak stations and some weak AM stations i get a hetrodyne, still the original radio. You might check the booster is getting power while the radio is on, if the radio has been changed it might not have wired back in.
