2004 D2 V8 Novice Buyer looking for info

    Hi guys,

First time user here! Looking for some links/input of mechanical things to look lout for on V8 D2's. Looking at one in Perth, seller is asking a premium price as it's only done 90000k and the interior/exterior immaculate but a couple of things under the hood did not look great to me (albeit with my limited knowledge).

Is there a forum legend out there that can link me to some threads on common mechanical problem's with this engine and also is there a thread I can get more specific info and/or post images of the engine issues for extra input?

Admin delete if not allowed or feel free to point me in the right direction if I have posted in the wrong place.

    Cheers! -Ryan

Check out the good oil section. There will be plenty of reading for you there. And welcome!

Spend the money to take it to a Land Rover expert for an inspection.

What didn’t look great under the bonnet? If only 90k and maintained should be in good condition.

Liner slip is massively overstated. Overheating from lack of maintenance and then head gasket leak is not overstated.

Appreciate the info from all above, reading up all this stuff today. Also the guys at Jordan Rover Tech are doing an inspection on the Discovery today or tomorrow.

That's what I would've thought, one side of the engine looked fine to my eyes, the other had oil seeping from underneath the cover and spreading down from there. Also the rocker cover on the same side has what looks like a lot of pink corrosion/oxidation, would this be a remnant from a burst hose at some point?

That's not corrosion, just what's left after coolant has evaporated its water content. The suspect will be the throttle body heater, most people bypass it as it's not really necessary in Oz.
