Are the centrifugal oil filter lid bolts tight?
Noticed more oil than usual on the engine and checked the oil filter and wasn't tight. Twisted and decreased engine in hope it waoupd be cured. One day later and more oil than ever, any ideas from the photo where it could be coming from ? I was due to do a service tomorrow and oil change but guessing no point till this is cured.
TD5, just beneath the exhaust manifold very close to the centrifugal filter
Striped bolts are common as they are easily over tightned.
The seal on the spin on filter may be damaged as it was loose and holding full pressure.
Turbo drain hose is where I would look next, gasket/loose swage/pin hole.
As your about to service it drop the filter to give you a better veiw of things.
It is also posible the drain hose cover is just oil impregnated but hard to pick from the photos.
Edit after noticing how high the oil is in the picture...
Is it blowing around from the cam cover by any chance?
The O on ring in it flatens out over time causing a leak
My leak around there was a loose spin on filter seems to have dried up with a new one, I would like to have 5 minutes with the engineer who thought it was a smart idea to put the filters where they are, it's obvious he doesn't have short fat stubby fingers.
+1 turbo oil drain
Thanks guys, did the service today and one of the bolts for the centrifugal filter was knackered, I must have overtighened it last time. It now has a nut and is tighter again. Decreased after and went to a drive to get some gearbox oil, and think something still leaking, might have been left over liquid, but sadly think still leaking. Will know more tomorrow and report back.
