Belt was the issue on mine. Of course i replaced every thing else first becsuse i was sure it was a bearing squeal. Orig belt was quite new also. Easy to check with a different belt.

Have you checked to see if you still have a cat?

haha both cats are in the house, besides if the cats are near the rover when i start it up they take off.
It is a non ACE , so will check idler pulley under aircon. And will spray lube on the uni's. it does have bolts missing off the manifold so there is a whistling sound coming from that but it is definitely a bearing noise. I'm waiting on my new stainless exhaust manifold to arrive so i can fix the whistling noise. Hopefully i can come to you guys with an answer, cheer for all your help.

My money is on the leaking exhaust manifold - if you already know that your missing studs and therefore have issues it seems a waste of time to continue to look for another cause until this is resolved and ruled out. Not sure how much success you'll have with the stainless steel replacement manifold - from all previous reports they're not very long lasting but I hope that you have better luck.

I had an early D2 that did it from new, intermittently, usually just after starting when hot.
The stealers couldn't fix it.
