Thanks for the explanation fella's looks like the Provent would give you a good indication of how the motor and turbo are going by the amount on oil you drain out of it periodically.

I purchased the Provent 200 with a drain tube and tap from United Fuel: To make life easier I got some 19mm aluminium hose barbs with a tapered thread designed to go into the Provents inlet/outlet and cut a thread. They have an o-ring on them to seal.
Did you get the provent and 19mm reducer at United Fuel? Can I have their address or link?
I am thinking to get the provent too and a lot on ebay but I am not sure one on ebay are genuine. Thanks.

No, the Provent is generic and fits many cars. Only caveat - fit the 200 not the smaller 100. Lots of particularly D2 owners in AU have gone down this (200) route - well done!

I think that I would like to change it in the future so that it drains the oil straight back into the sump rather than having to be emptied...
I Plan on re-doing my Provent hosing using some 3/4" annealed copper tubing and short rubber sections at each end, I can then route it against the firewall and not have it draped across the top of the turbo.

Also, once you have seen the watery-oily crud that comes out the bottom of the pro-vent, you will be happy U didnt drain it back to the engine. theres no way I would put it back in there!

So for everyone with one of these fitted, how much oil are you removing....say...every 5000 km?

I've got a couple fitted and I'm wondering what's normal!

Also...has anyone on here had an LRA modified rocker cover fitted?

    If so, does it work?

I’ve got one fitted to s defer TD5, was drained by mechanic yesterday

Maybe 100 ish mm or a bit more after 5000 k’s.

I actually have no idea what’s normal.

    Ok thanks,

    I'm guessing many don't know what's normal!
I've got a couple td5s, one has a bit of blowby and a pro vent knock off, after a couple thousand km probably has 50-60 ml.

The other has nothing, but the intake is always dry, I'd love to know why....
Well I know why, I'd just like to know why that is the case, as I have never had another turbo diesel that clean, even the other td5 when rebored and rebuilt.

    D2a TD5 - my Provent 200 installation

Normal ? .... It’ll be different for every engine, dependant upon mileage, past and present operating conditions and even choice of engine oil.

    For example...

I run a full mineral engine oil which has more volatile components compared to a semi or full synthetic engine oil. Full synthetic is specified by LR for the Td5.
I will be switching to full synthetic at the next service.

My D2 started life as a “tug”, with the original owner being a “grey nomad” who annually towed a caravan extensively on and offroad thru the Top End and the West of the continent. There was no snorkel fitted when i bought the D2 at 272,000km so its fair to expect that the engine has been “dusted” just like the inside of the airbox was, and the cab interior, and every other nook and cranny still is D2a TD5 - my Provent 200 installation

The D2 still gets a lot of work being my daily driver (900km Monday thru to Friday every week) and my weekend and holiday escape machine... and it is about to turn over 414,000kms.

My Provent has been fitted for 13,600kms now, over which time i have collected all the oil and have kept all in a bottle for a planned oil analysis at some point in the future. The collection rate averages 20mm per 1000kms which on balance I am not unhappy with.
