I read posts all the time about some people spending money on bling and accessories, they gladly hand over money for that, but when it comes to a critical part to maintain an engine they balk at spending the money.[bawl]

I'm not convinced about the Stahlbus oil drain, Although it projects only 13mm or so below the sump. Has any one installed this? Got a photo?

If you cop a hit big enough to rip the sump plug out, you more likely than not have bigger problems.
ie collecling the trail of steering and suspension linkages you left behind on the trail...
FWIW on the tdci, the sump plus is on the rear face of the sump, horizontal. Stahlbus or otherwise, argument is pretty much a moot point on that engine.
I've got a stahlbus on the 90, and have run a fumoto on the 300zx for near on 10 years without issue... and the latter sump plug is sitting about 100mm off the bitumen [wink11]

I've seen the pic you posted. That's where I got the 13mm over hang from. There is a thickish rod steering I think below that level. I'll have to have a good look at it tomorrow.
If I wanted a car for the black stuff and only the black stuff I would have bought a Lotus.

I must say, I had a hot lap in a lotus elise about 6 years back... not as fast as I expected. Probably having my lard arse and my little asian mate (the owner!) in it weighed it down considerably.
He'd measure performance gains on how big a dump he had that morning, or when his last maccas feed was!
Oh, and the carbon fibre fuel flap, lightweight roof panels etc... it's all modest power to low weight
It did handle well though. Chassis is stiff as...
You really have to fold yourself up to get into it as well. There is no graceful way to enter or disembark.
For that money at a similar level of performance, I'd ditch the body and go a Caterham! Drool.

If vehicle goes where recovery is questionable, swap the sump out.
Otherwise go the easiest repair option.
