    TD5 Sump Plug Thread damaged.

Well I have partially stripped the thread on the sump. I can tighten the bolt up, enough to hold oil, but without the copper washer. I need to repair the sump and I saw this

    Sump Plug / Oil Drain Repair / Rethreader Kit M16 - M17 Thread AN091 IRE | eBay

    comments any one?

    Thanks

    Julian

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

Wow did the glare from the hawaiian shirt blind you during the process to completely strip the thread
Oh maybe some of that glue stuff that Lotus uses to build their cars might do it
As suggested Helicoil is your friend

Heli coil may not be the best option......
Repco and similar automotive outlets sell over size sump plug kits for most makes of light vehicles.
Better private work shops will usually have something as stripped sump plugs often are left to the local mechanic to attend to.

If you do go this route, then buy a few extra washers in the size to suite as the O.E land rover ones will never fit again if you buy service kits

I am, I went to undo the bolt to change the oil and tightened it up! A dumb mistake.
