The Mann-Hummel centrifuge is a by-pass filter that removes soot down to 1 micron.
It's factory fitted. It's much more compact, efficient and much cleaner disposal than the old style toilet roll by-pass filters.
The TD5 has probably the best oil filtration system ever fitted to a small diesel engine. (although engines such as Toyota's 2H diesel had a centrifuge too. You could pull them apart to clean and literally peel the layer of soot out)
That's why the recommended oil change interval was 20,000km way back when diesel still had 500PPM sulphur levels and engine oils didn't have the levels of detergency/dispersency they do now.
You don't need a toilet roll by-pass filter, the engine already has something better. ;)
