Your advice has been taken the heads in the Reconditioners, yesterday I did a bit of Pm with starter solenoid kit fitted, replaced the broken Glow plugs insulators with 3 layers off Shrink tube [looks good] and replaced the brittle solenoid wire back to the harness. Today i will tidy up the engine harness, clean up the block, remove the fuel cooler and modify it to make it easier to remove will replace the o'rings in it before it goes back in and try and find a Ace or PS leak
[ I have already spent an hour looking and still can't pinpoint the leak].
I might also pull the alternator and replace the vac pump hoses they have had a good soaking in oil over the years.

Re the p/s leak , check to make sure the reservoir to pump pipe isn't chafing on the sump , it should have been fitted with some rubber hose over the pipe secured with cable ties, if not then you'll feel where its worn through the pipe , they can also leak from the "o" ring to the pump .

The heads back now and i am putting manifolds etc. back on, one thing i'm missing is the strainer behind the FPR [was never there] . I asked my local LR parts shop if it was deleted on the 15p's, he said it should be there but they don't worry to much about them if they are not there as 50% of the TD5's they see they are missing.
What's the collective wisdom of the forum think, has anyone seen these strainers with any rubbish caught in them thru normal running.

The reason you'll find the majority of those strainers are missing as people have heart attacks on the price of them, hence they leave them out.
