    Question Rear Hub

    Hi Brains Trust,

A few years ago I had a leaking rear (right) hub and swapped it out for an OEM version that I was assured was good quality from a shop that I trusted (they've since retired).

I've just noticed the same hub appears to be leaking again. I've got to check it's not the o-ring although I just can't conceive it'd be the easy/cheap option!

No other hub has leaked, just this same one, twice.

Question: Is there something systemic that could be causing this hub to leak again? Should I be going with the genuine (green oval) part? Not worried about cost - I just don't want to be changing this thing out again in a few years.

    cheers,

    bidds

If you have RAVE, check out the drawing / explanation of the rear axle hub set up. To me, it would have to be the O ring seal. I replaced mine, simple enough. The only critical thing is the drive shaft nut torque setting, 490 N M . I found out from experience, anything less will leak, eventually. Oh, and always get a new nut . I had to borrow my truckie neighbours torque multiplier to do the job. The second time.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
