thanks mate yeah I cracked it open fortunately it was clean as a whistle inside.

Wow that one certainly is wet.
I wonder if it has ever been looked at before.
A new injection loom will eventually fix it but you will have to pull it apart regularly for several months to get all the oil out. I understand the full loom is tres expensive.
One thing with a D2 is that the terminals are the lowest in the plug when it is in situ, so most oil runs out. I would take the gasket out for a while to let it drain also.

good advice Philip thank you. I'm a trimmer which means my mechanical skills and knowledge are next to nothing [wink11] so really appreciate all the advice on this forum.
well the saga continues, the intermittent loss of power issue happened again today, it seems to only happen in the middle of the day, so maybe the engine needs to be warm. never happens first thing.
I had some time tonight to get the cover off and have a proper look;

what's the brown stuff here? some kind of sealant? the previous owner said the head was done about 3 years ago, does this mean he's full of it? whatever it is it hasn't worked!

not sure why the pics are sideways, they're not like that on my computer. apologies.

I think this could be culprit of the power problem? this vacuum hose on the EGR was oil fouled and loose, cleaned it all up and refitted, will find out tomorrow if it's changed anything. looks like an EGR blanking kit will be on the cards...

puddle under the breather hose....

oil heading down the intake...

so, what's happening here and how much should I be forking out for a mechanic (or myself if it's easy) to do it?
thanks again friends!,
cam.
while i was at it I replaced the mass airflow sensor (the car came with a new one), and noticed the clip that holds the cable on is missing, any idea where I could get a new one? or should I just wrap a bit of wire around it.
The first suspect for the oil around the front of the head is the camshaft plug. This is a big plastic plug that has an Oring holding it in . The vibes of the engine and heat eventually destroy the oring . A new plug is pretty cheap and it can be done in situ. You should be careful that the oil does not soak into your alternator brushes as it did on mine the day I bought it.
I would take a very careful look at that bunch of wires at the corner of the head. This is the loom for the MAF and temp sensor and they are known to wear through the insulation.
The brown stuff is some sort of sealant which has been put on after work has been done from the outside to NO effect. The rocker covers almost always leak at the rear where there is a little hump for you guessed it the camshaft. It probably will need a new gasket and the little rubber seals/alloy spacers for each bolt which add up to $80 for a set.
Clean up the oil with degreaser and get some electronic cleaner to clean the temperature sensor plug..
Puddle under the hose and a bit of oil in the manifold are situation normal.
You can do all of this yourself with a bit of care and time taken. You can also replace the injector loom yourself as once you have the rocker cover off the loom just unplugs from the injectors.
As they say "Land Rovers making mechanics of their owners for 60 years"

The rocker shaft for the injectors might be what you meant to say Phillip[biggrin], the camshaft is further down.
Yes , definatley replace your injector loom , and clean out as mentioned , replace cam sprocket plug , r/c gasket etc, then drive and check for overboosting again as its likely to be boost modulator fault as well
ah that's great news thanks again Philip and Discorevy.
so am I right in assuming fuel in the oil is the injector seals? and is it safe to drive it around for a couple weeks as is until I can fix it?
Must've missed your post about the diesel in the oil , I wouldn't drive it , reason being if the "o" ring/s that are leaking ( you hope its "o" rings , check by cleaning around injectors with ign on) get worse you could end up with a runaway , even if this doesn't happen you aren't doing the engine any favours and shortening the life of it.
Probably is injector o rings, although I would not drive it much. I would be checking the oil level every day and not letting it get more than say 2MM up.Quote:

I am not really qualified to comment as my car does not grow oil so far. I have a set of washers and orings waiting for the day.
