    thanks guys,

sent it to the local LR specialist, he's only had time to take the sump off so far and it was a bad connection when he called so I didn't catch everything but he said the chains busted and that the sump was full of debri from bits of the timing chain tensioner. 'never seen that before' was his comment. he's inspecting the big end bearings tomorrow, I'm not optimistic!

    TD5 Kick Down/steering question

It's a spring loaded ram in a cylinder with an oil feed to lubricate.

Bugger mate, we feel for you. What a start to D2 ownership!

It can get better( says he when his D2 has just refused to start first time LOL)

Lets hope it was the timing chain that broke , not the oil pump chain.

    Regards Philip A

Oh dear, time for another motor.
Doesn't matter which chain broke, its toast either way.
    Keep us posted.
There are a couple of forum members that can set you up with a good motor at a fair price if you decide to go that way.

Mentioning oil pressure reminds me. Has anyone mentioned the dreaded oil pump bolt to you yet?

    goodish news

thanks again guys really appreciate all the knowledge.

well it seems this TD5 may live to fight another day, apparently it wasn't the dreaded oil pump bolt, but the broken parts of the chain tensioner got caught in the oil pump chain and broke it, so a similar outcome....the result being that we can get away with just fixing the conrod bearings and whatever went wrong under the timing chain cover...

he hasn't given me a price yet as he hasn't looked under the cover, anyone have an idea of what i'm up for?
