Thread: No Temperature

Very often NO reading at the temperature gauge usually indicates that the sensor isn't immersed in water
Did you check the coolant level?

Check for bad connection at the sensor as well , no reason to replace the radiator unless its blocked , broken or leaking , important to keep the coolant at the correct ratio and replace every 2-3 years though

(shouldn't make a difference, but) is it a v8 or TD5?

first and easiest things to check for are the connections at the sensor itself.
remove the plug, check cabling for any cuts/chafing/looseness at the plug end. Spray the plug and sensor terminals with WD.
Likely to be a faulty sensor too.

I reckon if it's on and off intermittently, it's less likely to be a lack of coolant at the sensor.

V8, the sensor is at the front of the V, next to the aircon compressor.
TD5, it's located towards the front at the top hose outlet.

+1, something on the gauge's circuit which can be from the sensor(most common), wiring up to the ECU, between the ECU and the instrument pack or the worst scenario within the instrument... i doubt that coolant level has anything to do with that cos even if there's no coolant on the sensor it's hot air or steam in there, the sensor's probe reacts to temperature not to fluid
