The problems of the auto gearbox are well documented. At least I had a go, and I learned something. Give it a try sometime,

I was only having a lend of you Mate, Ever since I first took ownership of my D2 I have learnt Many new skills
Anyway, Did you manage to beat that Murphy Swine and get your clutch back together ?

R380 slave pushrods clip is not actually needed with the correct slave?
With clutch fully engaged (ie pedal at rest) the pushrods in its cup puts preload on the slave.

Ie once you've got it installed and working it can't fall out

I wonder if you have a mismatch between rod and slave or worse still
The new hydraulics applied more mojo ending the life of the fork thereby allowing the pushrod to eject into the housing ....

On that, I had the same thing in a stupid Ford Festiva, or Kia whatever. That's when I remembered that if the battery is DEAD flat on a car with an alternator you could roll it all the way down Bulli Pass and it wouldn't start. Need something to excite the diodes or it won't produce anything. Anyway, that was another time the ride on mower helped.

Before anyone asks, Scanias are 24 Volt, and the batteries are hard to get at under the trailer.

I'll know tomorrow, but that is what happened, on closer inspection, only the push rod and rubber cap ejected into the housing. I tried to move the fork with a screwdriver, but to no avail. I hope they sold me the correct slave cylinder. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. This learning curve thing is highly over rated.

Hi John,

Under the most ideal conditions (manual gearbox, facing down a steep slope, with no wheel impediments), is it ever possible to jump-start a diesel (thinking TD5) with a battery that won't start it?
Or is the compression ratio just so high that the vehicle will never turn the engine over enough to get it to fire?

Get your d2 rolling at 30+ km/h and drop the clutch in 4th gear and it'll turn over just fine. Enough electrons to excite the alternator can be found in a lantern battery or similar.

Yeah, my sense of humour let me down. Car not quite right yet, but it will be. That Murphy had a good go at me, first the gearbox, then my computer got a bug, then Mum chucked a turn. Mum's good, computers fixed, and I'm actually enjoying the walk to Sandgate , especially early in the morning, along the beach front. Do miss driving the disco though.
