Not a good sign for the head

    Hi all,
At 305,000km, I'm finally starting the head gasket job on the TD5. It has signs of a gasket leak, mainly a pressurised cooling system and coolant loss, but otherwise drives fine and doesn't overheat.

However, in taking off the main hose from the radiator to the head, I've found this.

Is this an indicator I'm going to have corrosion in the block as well? I really don't want to pull the head off and find it's a write-off. A bit of background, when I bought the car at 10 years old (it's a 2000 model), it had green coolant in at. When I replaced the radiator hose, maybe 5 years ago, I flushed the system and replaced it with the proper coolant. I've never run just straight water in it.

Wouldn't worry about it. They commonly corrode through, especially in the U.K. Mine was pretty gnarly but not that bad, and the block was fine.

At least, I wouldn't take it as a definite sign that the head is shagged. But that's just the opinion of a muppet Not a good sign for the head

    Thanks all,
I will continue with removing the head, and let you know if there's anything amiss with the block. And if there is that point, I may have a bullbar and roof cage to sell
