AFAIK this is usually the Throttle Position Sensor(TPS) or in old language the accelerator, or the wiring loom that runs to it. Check for chafing .

Hi all, I've just finished doing a head gasket on my 2003 Disco TD 5 and cranked up the turbo pressure a bit. I think it spiked once at 1.35 barr.
My problem now is loosing power for apparently no reason, sails along until it drops down a gear and just doesn't pull.
Nanocom tells me 'DRIVER REQUEST ERROR' there were some numbers but I had cleared the fault before taking note of them.
I never had this problem before doing the head and it could be nothing to do with that at all.
I'll just have to keep driving until it faults again then take more notice of the detailed fault.
Once the fault was cleared it picked up again straight away.
Any ideas out there guys?
Cheers
Mike

Weather related? I had the same thing about 2 weeks ago after a heap of rain - I have the leaky windscreen issue and I noticed that the stream of water is heading towards the right area to put a bit of water in or near the TPS.
I see you are down the road, so you have had a heap o rain in the last few weeks too.
Thanks guys, I'll start there.
Checking faults does not show up a TPS fault though.
Cheers

Is it logging an overboosting fault?, when you as sails along until it drops down a gear, do you mean you put your foot down to make it drop down or does it do it by itself on a flat road ?.you may have gone too far with shortening the actuator rod
I helped a friend once to diagnose a low engine power issue and the only fault logged was driver demand related so saved a data log after a long drive to see the TPS readings and all was OK... I have no logical explanation but after few hours of head scratching and various tests the conclusion was that the fuel pump's HP stage was gone and it worked only on LP... new pump fitted and all was good again, power restored, no codes... strange but happened so if you have a proper gauge fit it instead the FT sensor in the FPR and see the pressure to rule this out

Reading up on similar problems and over boosting is certainly happening (still) I am winding it back step by step.
It is happening on 'cruise control' so it is not dependent on the throttle being moved so I'll hope it may be boost related.
Today I looked further, like to the next page of faults an current was 'HIGHSPEED CRANK', I don't know what that one is all about and I can find no information about it.
So, wiser ones out there HELP, please, there have been mentions of problem '15.2' in relation to the crank problem but mine is '17.2' and I presume it may be slightly different.
Can they both be related to the over shortening of the waste gate rod? If it stops raining I'll sort that tomorrow!
Cheers and thanks in advance.
Mike
The "high speed crank" one is about the crankshaft sensor signal, IMO it has nothing to do with the wastegate

The cruise control will go flat out if you lose speed on a hill .It is happening on 'cruise control' so it is not dependent on the throttle being moved so I'll hope it may be boost related.
On my car this can cause unlock of the Torque converter and a simultaneous quick rise in EGTs , and probably boost so if it happens under those conditions it is feasible that you are going into overboost if the wastegate rod is wound in.

If your at 12-13 threads on the actuator rod and will getting overboosting, check all lines to and from the modulator, including the modulator itself, you may have damaged it if you didn't unbolt it before moving the a/c compressor when you did the head, clear the faults and see which ones return
