The Second Year of Land Rover Discovery Ownership.

The first item was replacing the ignition/steering lock. I had to replace it, it had jammed at Bunnings I had to get the car taken home.
This year has seen a raised air intake installed. An ebay special.
I've installed a Provent 200, the next time I clean the inter cooler, Jan 2018 will be the last time. I'll also clean out the inter cooler hoses.
I bought 5 new wheels, pre face lift ones, and put on Windforce muddies. I got rid of the old Coopers ATs on the existing wheels and put on a set of Windforce ATs
I've been on the LROCV Mansfield base camp on the Labour day long weekend.
Completed the LROCV Intermediate driving course
I went on the LROCV day trip to Toolangi State Forest, I got stuck, cross axled and had a very gentle pull from a defender 90 to get out. Also on that day I removed the trim finisher that sits above the rear bumper on the RHS. I was pleased to see, after the noise, that the damage was minimal.
I get the occasional 3 amigos. But as I am not very sociable, they do not stay.
The car has also developed a very slow coolant leak from somewhere, I think the reservoir cap but I'm not sure.
Likewise with an oil leak. I'll be looking at that over the summer, but I think it may be from the Sump plug that is partially stripped.
I did had a leaky Fuel Pressure Regulator and after some urging from Fast Freddie I took the acoustic cover off, had a look at the thing and found one of the ring nuts was loose. It took 20 minutes to tighten it up.
I've put a second battery on the air compressor shelf. Connected to the SC80 with 6B&S cable. Oh and an Anderson Plug at the rear to run the compressor or 240V inverter.

I seem to be clocking 20,000 kms per year. Not sure why, I'm only 9 km from work.

I have to admit that I quite like working on the car.

P.S. How could I forget the driver's door window regulator. A long process that involved buying brass rod and a bloke at work turning the piece out. Then I lost the wave washer and after deciding not to spend $7.00 for one at a local supplier, I bought 100 for $3.50 from China via ebay.

    Cheers

    Hi Julian,
I've just started my 1st year of Discovery IIA ownership, so I'm very interested in other owners' experiences. Doesn't sound like your ownership has been to bad so far. Hope our experiences are equally benign.

I purposely leave out the $6472.00 I had to spend 3 weeks after purchase to repair the head, replace the water pump, viscous fan timing chain cover etc, as I am too embarrassed to admit to buying a faulty vehicle.

Maybe, I have not done any mechanical work for 30 years or more, so I am pleased or proud with my mechanical efforts, even if I have to fix it again, due to operator error.

The unfortunate thing is thousands spent doesn't make it worth anymore.

I know that!! Why do you think it's taken so long to admit it?
