Discovery TD5 - Few pics of the touring build

Just thought I post the first pics of the old disco with the vast amount of work I've done over the last few months in prep for a little tour of this great country...

Work carried out over the last few months - (all work carried out by myself)
Engine, Drive Chain, Suspension & Tyres.

Full extended service with all fluids etc..., New Alternator, New Water Pump, Uprated Alloy Radiator, Silicone Water Hoses, Extra Water Temp Sensor, Electric Thermo Fan, Safari Snorkel, New Sump Gasket, New Rocker Gasket & Injector Loom, Re-furbished Starter Motor, Oil Catch Can, EGR Delete, EGT Probe (egr delete plate), Tunit Engine ECU, Extra Front Mounted Transmission Cooler with Fan, Transfer Box Alloy Cooling Sump, Cat Delete, Centre Muffler Delete, Hotdog 9" Rear Muffler, 2" EFS 80kg Load Front Springs, 2" Terrafirma SLS Spacers, 2" Terrafirma Front & Rear Shocks, 265-75-16 Maxxis 980 Bravo AT Tyres.

    Exterior Body & Roof Rack.

13,000lb WinchMax Winch (switched in Cabin), LightForce Spot Lights, 22" LED Light Bar, GME 6.6db FibreGlass Aerial, Rola Roof Racks, Darche Roof-Top-Tent, Foxwing Awning, 100w Solar Panel, High Lift Jack & Shovel Mount, Recovery tracks Mounted with Spare, 6" LED Reverse Light, Reverse Camera, Rear Mounted Compressor Socket, Water Tank Filler (mounted near drivers side top windows), 2x 12v WaterProof Sockets (mounted passenger side top window), 2x LED Awning Lights, 2x LED Tent Lights with 12v Socket.

    Cabin Mods.

Full Length Custom Built T-Shape Roof Console, New Head Lining, Roof Mounted Fire Extinguisher, 7" LCD Headrest Monitors, JVC DVD Headunit with 3" LCD Screen (reverse camera), Front Mounted Dual USB Sockets, Front Mounted Dual Battery Monitors, Dual Battery Emergency Link Switch, EGT Gauge, Water Temp Gauge, Rear Seat Mounted 240v Sockets (600w inverter), Rear Seat Mounted 12v & USB Sockets, Full interior Strip incl. Seats, Carpet, Door Cards & Head Lining with Sound & Heat Insulation fitted throughout incl. Roof.

    Boot Mods.

50l Water Tank (fitted drivers side in place of 7th seat), 160ah Dual Batterys (fitted passengers side in place of 7th seat), 600w Inverter, Plumbed in Air-Compressor with External Outlet, Custom Made Roof Mounted Storage Cupboard, Custom Made Dual Draw System (with access to fuel pump etc..), 40L Engel Fridge on Fridge Slide with Custom CNC Cable system (stops cable pinch issues etc..), LED Roof & Rear Door Lights, 12v Water Tap Mounted to Rear Door, Custom Rear Door Panel with Drop Down Table & Land Rover Tool Bag Storage, IKEA Magnetic Knife Bar.

I'm almost finished but while trying to fit some LED front lights I cut my hand so deep with a stanley knife that I had to have an operation to repair nerve & muscle damage so the last few bits have come to a halt and the trip is set back a few weeks, incl. heading around the corner to Williamstown to have a lend of BOHICAS Nanocom to be able to fit the new SLS sensors!!

Bloody long list and sure I've forgotten something in that little lot but I'm very happy with the old girl as she is now and hopefully she does me proud on tour! Everything above I fitted and source with most of it on the cheap via eBay, Gumtree etc.. with somethings new from all over the world to secondhand bits and pieces across Australia.......Hope you also like to work and if anyone needs any more info, advice or tips regarding the work I've custom made or fitted I'm more happy to help........Also thinking in the near future of heading this way work wise

Looks impressive Rosco,, any info on exactly what you've done and how?

Have you got an actual build thread for it which already explains,, I do have a tendency to miss things sometimes

Nice work Rosco. I'm interested in seeing a bit more of the back door. The tap is a great idea.

    Looks really good Roscoe,

Just one question - is the GPO on the back of the console a conventional house unit?

Discovery TD5 - pics of Roscoe's touring build

    Hi Rosco,
On your car, is the door-stay on the bottom RHS corner of the tail-gate door firm enough to hold the door open reliably when you want to use the table, etc, or get to other items in the back?
On mine, the stay holds the door open (just) but a bit of breeze will cause it to swing closed, which hurts a bit if you're standing in the way!
Have you devised a way to deal with this, or don't you need to with yours.
If you have, I'd like to know what you used.
    Cheers,
    Andrew Milne

Cheers, yeah I've got a 600w inverter mounted with the dual batteries in the back and then just ran a 240v 10amp mains cable through to the cabin wired directly into just a regular 10a household GPO. Once power feeds out of the inverter just treat it like household wiring! I've fused & switched the inverter 12v side

Cheers....... I'm very happy with the door mounted tap, certainly after the time and effort it took to get the hose through cable rubber running to the back door, it was a bloody nightmare to point bluntly, haha...... but well worth the effort, I cut a small square hole in the door to mount the tap, run a fused & switch power feed from the dual batteries, mounted the small 12v pump near the tank in the back with the hose through the rubber into the door..

haha, nope mine is currently not too clever either....I've had a few ideas, a few things fitted and tried that I just didn't like the look of (I'm fussy with the overall look) but with my hand now being buggered tools have been downed for a week or so.....I'm looking for a nice stainless gate stay to mount near where my electrical switches are or maybe fit a tube mount on the door to work as a 'stay' while camping as in normal road use mine tends to stay open

I'll keep you posted and get some pics up once I'm able to work on it again and get that problem ironed out with the last few little bits left
