I'm running Maxxis 980 AT, I think they are a perfect size for the disco with a 2" lift as fill the arches just about right. I did notice the power drop and the braking force is certainly decreased but nothing thats not adaptable to with your driving style, I did however do some tweaking to the engine after fitment but that was going to happen anyway so overall the car still performs better than it did........
If you have a lift then the bigger tyres are a must in my opinion as the 235-70-16 standard size tyres just look lost!
As for the standard alloys, I still have the LR 16x7 alloys and have fitted this size with no problem and car drives fine, if I'm correct I think the min thats recommended for the 265-75-16 is a 7.5" rim but I and many others have this size on the 7" rim with no problems at all.
If anything you notice a touch less feel to the steering & car will move about a touch more due to the high side wall but yet again nothing to worry about...
In short, I'd not go down in size from these now as for me this is the perfect size unless you want to cut arches and change diff ratios etc... with 33" and upwards. 265-75-16 works out to be 31.6" (depending slightly on tyre brand & range)
