Converting from coils back to SLS ?????

I changed my D2 2000 TD5 back to airbags about 4 or 5 months ago. I bought new Conti bags & a good 2nd hand compressor.

I'm very happy with air & wouldn't go back to coils on this car. There is a slow (7 hr) leak that results in lowering to the bump stops, but I've narrowed it down to a leaking SLS valve block. I've got a new one that'll go in on Tuesday morning & that should end the bump stop issue.

Another thing to do is go to Pirtek & make 2 of these (to suit 4mm air line). Then cut the left & right airbag supply lines & install these in line. That way if you get a major failure (compressor, etc) you can turn off the taps and manually inflate using the car valves. I've mounted mine to steel angle & tek screwed into the chassis.

Great idea, Will steal it when i check things out.[biggrin]

I will be keeping my rear springs and adding a set of air bags to assist them.
My springs are standard height as I prefer Not to do the "Lift" thing and even fully loaded the truck doesn't sag too much in the rear end at the moment But a set of air bags will not only take some of the pressure off the new springs I should hopefully be able to jack the rear up in the same way I did with the SLS system if I need that extra clearance [thumbsupbig]

My original SLS had all sorts of dramas and I had the air bags, lines and pump checked out and they all got a clean bill of health but I still ended up on the bump stops most times So I got the ****s and went the springs option.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the problem with the SLS had something to do with the door sensors wrongly telling the truck that a door was open.

The ride IS better with the SLS But it becomes a real problem for me if the system fails in the areas I travel So I will be sticking to the springs and foregoing some comfort for reliability.

Mario ( Roverlord)has OEM airbags. I believe that a nanocom can check your compressor.

Pulled out compressor today and gave it a squirt of lube in the intakes and the solenoids, Jumped the compressor and away it went nil problems. Jumped solenoids all seem to be functioning ok . Must say **** myself when i jumped the one on the compressor and it blew off. Through it back into the rack and connected what i had up. Tested function with nano com could hear compressor cycle when trying to raise individual sides. So at this time I will be chasing some airbags and see how it goes.

As John said, Mario has them and can have them to you over-night.
A couple of hints from my experience;
The airline is 4mm.
The suspension will not raise or lower unless the bonnet and all doors are fully closed.

And when you turn the car off it will go down by 40mm or so. That's normal. I didn't know that when it happened to me!

Interesting.... that's never happened to me. I've only ever got a slight sag when parked up for a few days and the air in the bags gets really cold.

That's weird, this is from the RAVE manual:

Normal ride height
When the vehicle is stationary, a door is open and the ignition is off, the SLS system will allow the rear of the vehicle
to lower to within 20 mm of the normal ride height as load is removed from the vehicle. The SLS system will only
operate the compressor to raise the rear of the vehicle when the engine is running, unless requested using the remote
handset.
