    4HP22e

Now has its own Thread in TGO,,
I have gathered various other 4HP22e posts from in there and merged them all,,

If you remember a gearbox post that was "a big help" during your time of gearbox despair,, please PM me the link---

I have posted a pdf from Land Rover about the gearbox,, the Chapter about TOWING is decidedly worth reading

    I love the new sticky.

I have questions about the hp22 and not sure if to start a new thread or not, I dont see to be able to find specific information, only general.
What does the the 'e' on zf4hp22e stand for? Is this different to zf4hp22?

Reason I ask is I want to maybe do my own rebuild on my 2000 TD5 hp22 but Im not sure about any minor differences that might become a show stopper.
Is a BMW E34/E32 ZF4HP22 seven pin going to bolt up to my bell housing, fit the torque converter, allow the rear to be removed to accomodate the original land rover back plate so the transfer case will bolt up, and are the splines going to fit my drive shaft. Its a little bit technical for me atm but once I get started I should be fine.

I would buy a rebuilt box but I just cant afford it atm and I dont have anywhere to do the work myself now due to having to move. If I cant do a cheap rebuild and find somewhere to do the work then I think im going to have to sell my wagon as it not going due to loss of drive the other day My pride and joy is not going).

Any and all info is most welcome and yes I have read the rebuild posts, I just dont know where they sourced there info or if I am overlooking anything.

*I need to get around and a motorcycle is not always good this time or year here. Anyway I posted an ad in the advertising section if anyone is interested.

I used the internals out of a BMW trans it was the 24hp the pawl is thinner on the BMW trans a lot of vehicles use the 22 but watch the ratios as zf did this type with 2 different ratios in the lower gears.

Doesn't Ford use the same 'box in Falcon/Fairlane/Territory?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

There is a bit of info on the Ashcroft webpage about the hp22. TC sizes etc. I think they were used in mustangs also. I had mine rebuilt and it was about $4500 ish
