Time to say good bye to the D2a?

I went out with the daughter today to look at a car. A Freelander 2 GSX (I think it was a GSX) It has a lot of fruit! Auto headlights, auto windscreen wipers, terrain response, 500mm wading depth! The same as the Disco!! Low range transfer case (ok no low range) De-clutch and put into neutral and the engine turns off. So much more than the D2a. So much more that I've told the daughter that I will drive the Freelander and she can drive the D2a, unless I am off with serious off roading. She didn't like that. Not at all. So I am thinking of getting a D4 with all the fruit. Except that I have only been a 4WD owner for a bit over 2 years. Do I want to wreck a $70,000 plus D4 or a $9,000 D2a? Neither to be honest. The truth is that with my level of experience (Basic and Intermediate Driver Training with the LROCV) stuffing up a car is a possibility. Add to that the lack of cash to buy a D4, I'll stick with the D2a.
I like the D2, it has for me just enough computers. And I can work on the car. It is in some ways, simple. Also I have a Nanocom and tools.

I know that visiting the relatives in NSW, on gravel roads, I will lock the centre diff, my daughter will select, grass, gravel, snow.

ATB! .. let daughter select(or forget too select) grass/gravel/snow mode .. you just keep on motoring along as usual.

Get front and rears too while you're at it.
