    Thomas Winch on a D2?

Wondering if this will fit on the front of my D2 TD5? I have a steel winch bullbar & I understand that I may need a cut or drill here or there to my bullbar.

I like that it has the hand crank option, plus from what I've read you can still buy parts for it.

I personally wouldn't put anything as "Old School" as this on my D2a.
Besides being just plain Fugly it is only an 8,000lb winch (When New) when there are 12,000lb available at very reasonable prices now and they are also good units to boot.

Isn't that a high mount winch? I find it hard to believe it is only 8000lbs, unless it is very fast.

I'd argue that that you don't require a powerful winch on a Disco due to them being so light, 12,000lbs is more than heaps enough for a Disco. The benefits are high mount winches are generally faster and they hold more rope. If you want it for these reasons perhaps it is worth considering. But there are other ways around the rope issue now with nylon rope being smaller lighter and stronger, but you can't beat a high mount for speed.

When they put high mount winches on Patrols they have to cut the grill to fit them, I just don't think it is worth the effort on a Disco.

A high mount winch may have the advantage of speed and rope capacity But they also block a lot of air flow through the radiator.
    I wouldn't call a 4WD that is 2 tone empty exactly Light.

I'm not terribly fussed about how fast or pretty it is guys! I'm more interested if I can get it to fit without remaking my entire front end! From my point of view, if I'm going 4wd'ing then I'm really not in a hurry. Does it really matter if it takes another 5 minutes to get pulled out?

Really you don't think a dual line 8000lb is strong enough?? I would have thought that 8000lb is more than enough to pull a D2 stuck 1/2 way up the doors in a mud hole!

8000 is fine, use a snatch block if required. I wouldn't waste $200 on that box of parts.

My hi mount doesn't have any affect on my radiator cooling or my heat exchanger for my water to air intercooler, spot lights would have much more effect if there is any at all. It also has no drama pulling my rangie and campertrailer.
Much rather a highmount over a slow mount anyday of the week.

Irrespective of suitability and fitting, I just can't understand why the seller doesn't invest an hour or two to assemble that box of parts and sell (much easier) as a complete and going unit.

    Thomas Winch on a D2?

That's exactly why I'm quite interested. I currently have a hand winch which I could sell. The Thomas has a contingency plan for power failure, plus from what I understand winch industries still sell all the parts.

No one has so far really talked me out of it. Think I might go have a look at it.

Oh, I've found the operating manual online which has the full exploded diagram and part breakdown.
