    Auto Longevity - V8 vs TD5

Is there any difference to the lifespan of a HP22 Auto behind a V8 vs a TD5?
I know that towing history and auto servicing history has a factor in the auto's longevity - but with all things being equal - is there a difference?
There is a D2 V8 with 260K on the clock I may have a look at, and it has had multiple owners - so history of the auto is lacking.

I think so,, just from posts here,, (make your own conclusions on that as a reference)
but its not usually the TD5 box that gives up first, the rattlers torque converter is the weak link,,
and its sort of planned that way , consider its size in comparison to the V8 and with the lockup much higher up the rev range,,
not many V8 owners change torque converters.

having said all that,, none of the D2's are getting any younger,,

Does the V8 use the HP22 or larger HP24?

My 2003 D2a has 265k km on it now on the original automatic transmission. It was originally a city car in Sydney and has been modified by me to be a tourer (including remap, larger intercooler and VGT). The automatic transmission is original and still in great condition. I suspect the extended life span that I've got is due to replacing the torque converter with an Ashcroft HD unit at 180k km - as mentioned above this is usually the failure point and damages the rest of the transmission when it goes. It will be interesting to see how long mine lasts - part of me wants it to go so I've got an excuse to change to a manual (didn't get a manual originally as I have a top spec HSE model and wanted those extras but they only come in automatic)...
