yep , same , but squirt a bit of silicone spray on the belt while its making the noise , you'll probably want to change it anyway, it'll give you a chance to test the pulleys
Hey team
I have a squealing or chirping kind of sound on my D2a Td5.
I'm well aware the prime suspect should be prop shaft, but not in this case. It seems to match engine speed instead of road speed, and it's not continuous. Does seem rotational. I'm thinking idler or tensioner? Any other suggestions?
Are the idlers and tensioners the same between the 10p and 15p motors?
Cheers

Harmonic Balancer is a culprit![]()
Also the fan bearing![]()
If it's engine speed related there could be a number of possible culprits. Alternator, air con compressor, harmonic balancer, fan bearing, ACE pump (if fitted), tensioner, idler pully, steering, water pump, etc.
I my case with the belt off I could feel the roughness in the idler pulley. Replaced it and VIOLA (stringed orchestra again) noise gone. I was VERY pleased that it wasn't the harmonic balancer or anything expensive.
Hopefully it's something cheap and accessible.
Cheers,

If you get a can of WD40 with the tube spray on it and give each individual bearing on each of the different pulleys squirt one at a time you should be able to isolate which one is the culprit.
It could also simply be your serpentine belt itself that is doing all the bird noises.
